Auslandspraktikum in Princeton

Before I write the next article about the Arch Enemy concert in NYC I went to last week, I came across this german folkloric medieval band that I liked a lot: Schelmish. Take a look:

Last week end a whole group of interns went rafting in the Poconos Mountains, in Penssylvania, in the very vicinity of our paintball location. This time, Christian organized the whole thing: 27 interns did sign up. We had to get up very early on the morning, which was even harder for most of us because of the huge party that took place at Katherine’s place, in Princeton. So after a whole hour of sleep, I got up and we met at Siemens at 7am.

After almost 2 hours, we finally got there. We could check in and then proceed with renting the mandatory swimsuits. 6 people normally fit on a boat, meet my funny crew was: Silvia, Silvana, Florian, Philipp, Torsten and myself.

After a short introduction about what to do in order not to drown, we took a short bus ride to the starting location. The funny thing was that the bus was an old schoolbus, like we Europeans know only from movies.

The water was very cold, it’s a good thing we had our swimsuits ! The current was not too strong, and I was a bit deceived that it wasn’t more wild. I was secretly hoping for more action, but it was still very funny. Especially the so called “French boat” made our day: Davide and Jun-Yi fell from the boat !

Finally, another concert I went to. This time, Apocalyptica played in NYC at the Irving Plaza. Georgios, Florian, Lothar and myself went the to concert. The location is just perfect for concerts, as it is not too big and the stage is very large.

The cellists were really impressive, and the setlist of the concert was just great. I took some pictures, but as we were not really allowed to use the flash, several pictures are blurry. Here are some shots, make sure to see the other pictures in the gallery:

I found several recordings of the concert on youtube, the sound is not fantastic but still ok. This song is called “Betrayal”:

Here is a video of “Inquisition Symphony”, one of the most impressive songs in my opinion. It’s a live from Germany, the sound is better than in the actual recordings of the concert I went to:

The concert was not brutal at all, but I was expecting this. After all, it’s not really metal
The next concert, however, will be far more agitated … next sunday at the same location again, but this time the Swedish melodic death metal band “Arch Enemy” is playing ! Stay tuned !
